The Death of Count Chocula

This is the song that I made after I heard about the death of a very close friend back in 2022.....in honor of what would have been his 47th birthday, I'm releasing it here as the sixth song for the April album. Electronic dub/trip hop with synth, guitar, ghostly Optigan, subby bass, and a few choice vocals from the legendary 'Sausage People' song (iykyk)..... I also threw in a little vocal intro I found the other day that Johnny and I recorded back in 1996 (I put it in at the end of the song here).....enjoy!

 Continuing with our Tarot Deck we have Number 6: THE LOVERS!........it appears to be a mermaid and a unicorn......an unlikely and impossible combination, which is about how love feels to me right now hahaha! This image is very cosmic and strange, with many portentous visions contained within........

 This strangeness has surfaced tonight here at Spectral Studios....... If you know, you know. Anything can happen! Also, mushrooms on the door to the dungeon!.......

The 700

 Here is a rare image of a wonderful and delicate creature that lives in my head that I call 'The 700'.....it's full name is 700 Midi Tigl, which stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface Totally Integrated Germane Logic. Back in the 80s, I was lucky enough to spend a little time with Dave Smith of Sequential Circuits, who is widely considered the 'Father of Midi', and he built this creature for me to create and transmit midi data. At the time of its inception, it would create the data and store it on a big floppy disk that you would put in to the mouth slot there on the front, but over the years it has been upgraded and modified by many and various excellent folk who have tinkered with it, and taken its performance to magnificent heights! The four buttons at the bottom allow you to dictate the mood of the music, and the various dials and switches up at the top allow you to input many different parameters......there is even some speakers on the right side there so The 700 can broadcast the midi data with some of the rudimentary sounds he has built in.....it's truly a marvel to behold!

Forgotten Faces 5

The Memory Sphinx reminds us of faces that we have forgotten.....our own faces........faces of those we love......faces of those we hate.......faces of people we knew only briefly in passing.....faces of people who had no impact on us at all. Perhaps it also reminds us of the time we forgot to have faces.....

The Hierophant

 Continuing our Tarot deck series, we have number 5: THE HIEROPHANT!..... he looks strange, and has many faces here. Quite a mystical and interesting character...... I don't feel like this Tarot deck series is homogenous enough for an actual deck, but it's still fun to do so we'll keep going.......

 For me this is still the G.O.A.T. of polaroid pictures, and although it was made here on Earth, to me it's still very cosmic....I've had this photo forever and now here it is for you on The Secret Path blog!!

Spectral Studios 4

Here we have a picture of the mascot here at Spectral Studios, known as The Druid, or The Forest Mage..........or Dave, to his close friends and family. We see him standing proudly atop my old Teac Tascam series 15 soundboard from Japan, holding his trusty oak staff topped with The Crystal of Knowing, overseen by The Dragon of Remembrance......if we're ever in need of mojo here at the studio we just turn to Dave!

Been thinking a lot about family and relatives this week.....almost called the song 'Cascading Solitude' because that's what it makes us feel..... a super chill track with electronic sounding drums, bass, guitar, strings, and a harpsichord!.....

The Emperor

 Next up on our Tarot Deck Pathway is number 4: THE EMPEROR!........here we can clearly see the child Emperor being guided by his ancestral spirit, who is in turn being guided by the Tranquil Elephant of Souls, seen at the top right with his two-toned trunk. Super groovy!

Spectral Studios 3

Continuing our tour of strange and interesting ancient machines and instruments here in Spectral Studios, here is a Melodica, made in Germany by Hohner...... I picked this bad boy up at an estate sale a couple of years back. You blow into the mouthpiece at the top, and finger the notes on the piano-like keyboard. For me this instrument is most closely associated with Horace Swaby, aka Augustus Pablo (R.I.P.), who played it and featured it quite often on his many exceptional Dub Reggae albums.......peace!
 

Cyclical Nature

Hey, all, here is a jaunty tune about the cyclical nature of the universe, life, our thoughts, etc., with lots of different drums that is all over the place......almost like 6 little songs in one, except it's just one song, you know? It's the first song for our April album, and it's called 'Cyclical Nature'......Also with guitar, synth, organ bass, the all powerful Cordovox 'White Elephant', and something in the middle that sounds suspiciously like an (accidental) didgeridoo......... please listen at your convenience, and follow us deeper down The Secret Path........
