The album for May presents 8 moods.....not necessarily normal moods like sadness, or anger, but more shifting and nuanced moods that can be interpreted in endless ways by the listener......a languid and laid back album of space rock and trip hoppy goodness.....

Monster

An interesting foray into chaos, this track projects the mood of the 'Monster' to me, so that's what it's called......a mindless monster that gathers with his friends and plays on instruments blindly.....a strange song that harkens back to our early days of recording music, when all we had was a 4 track casette recorder and a dream.....this is kind of a collection of small, pseudo songs all crawling into each other.....mostly ambient and not for the faint of heart, it is in between the creepy classic monster and the happy fun cereal box monster...... led by the Uncanny Optigan, and featuring bass, guitar, synth, and a weird Burgundy box that plays random Chinese songs...........Rad!  It's Here!!

 

The Floyd 6

Here we have another gregarious and fascinating foray into recreations of Pink Floyd album covers.....this is the last of the six pack of 'Ummagumma' reproductions........here we have Miko, a good friend of mine in the center playing the part of David Gilmour. her friend Naoko is to her right in the Roger Waters spot, as well as her boyfriend Brandon there with his back to us.....in the upper left window is the Reciprocal Nun and her good friend 'The Hatted Man' with his back to us in the trench coat. The top center image is the Japanese version of Coco Chanel, 'Koko Chaneru'......and at the top right is an artistic depiction of 'Lynn Mynmei' from the Robotech Macross Saga.................................................................!!!

 Some alternate versions of the artwork for the song 'Alchemist', from our April album 'Lavender Inventions'.......it's one of my favorite song arts so far this year so we included a few excellent extras here for you to check out!

Spectral Studios 7

 Further down the Secret Path we continue our tour of Spectral Studios....... here we have a Black Widow guitar made by the Acoustic  Control Corporation, which is primarily known for making solid state amps, but once upon a time made a brief foray into electric guitars, and this is the result! The early ones were built by Bartel in the USA in the late 60s.... Jimi Hendrix owned one of the first ones.....then they were contracted to be made in Japan at the Matsumoku factory in the early 70s, where the majority of the perhaps 1500-2000 of these guitars ever made were made. The final run of these were made back in the US in the mid 70s by the legendary Mosrite Company.....this is one of the Japanese ones....note the red leather 'black widow' pad on the back of the guitar in the last picture.....this is my dream guitar, and I'm so glad I found this one! If ever you hear an electric guitar on a Secret Path album, it's this one!

Lover

The third mood of May is that of The Lover.....not just a romantic lover, but a lover of things; a lover of life.......a lover of love! Featuring drums, synth bass, Rhodes piano, mellotron, and a ghostly guitar!

 The sun came out while it was raining the other day, so when I went outside my camera captured this lovely, colorful, visible light spectrum beaming across the sky above these trees!......Nature is wonderful.

Voyager

The second song for May creeps in......A groovy beat for voyaging around town and doing your thing. A kind of heavy, dark mood of curiosity and exploration. relatively simple instrumentation with meandering melodic information.....featuring drums, bass, organ, guitar, synth, and the freedom to explore!

Spectral Studios 6

 Hello kind humans!...... continuing our tour of Spectral Studios here we have the Korg Prophecy, a digital synth that came out in the mid 90s..... we've had this one since 97, and while it's not as old as many of the dinosaurs here at the studio, it's also no spring chicken hahaha! These days it's mostly used as our midi controller, but every once in a while we plug in the audio and use some of it's many weird sounds.......it also came with a VHS tape that has Jan Hammer shredding on it and showing you its features.....90s!

The first song for May makes its way slowly down The Secret Path......it's called 'Destroyer'! They say that Shiva is armed with peace, and destroys with beauty.....not sure who said that, or where I heard it, but it fits the mood of this song perfectly! With drums, bass, guitar, Rhodes piano, synth, and the removal of obstacles.......listen up!

Lavender Inventions

April's album is here and fully realized......a space rock journey of epic proportions. Grooves for the everyday.It was a tumultuous month of music work, but it's all done, and we're looking forward to May.......A meandering but important section of The Secret Path. I love you!Check it out

Shadows

The 8th and final song for the April album was first summoned by dancing in the shadows.....so we're calling it 'Shadows'.....with classic Secret Path instrumentation of drums, bass, guitars, organ, and Rhodes piano....with a little bit of the voice of Seth/Jane echoing down through the ages from a classroom somewhere in the early 70s.....
